The Unified Police Department (UPD) SWAT Team recently obtained a new Lenco Bearcat G3 armored personnel carrier thanks to private donations. The Bearcat has a lot of new technology that will help keep the SWAT Team and community safer. The Bearcat is on a Ford F-550 chassis. It weights 19,000 pounds and is engineered to stop high caliber rifle rounds. Among many sophisticated features it has a hydraulic ram, rotating hatch and turret, ballistic skip shield blankets, seating for 12 SWAT operators, run flat tires, high capacity heating/air conditioning and has off road capabilities.

There is really no other vehicle that has this technology in the region. This was made possible thanks to private donations. “In conjunction with Big Shot Ranch, a law enforcement training facility located in Tooele County, we were pleased to be able to support the Unified effort with this impressive vehicle to enhance the officers ability to protect and serve the community. Rob and Gary Reynolds. The UPD is very appreciate for the donation as this vehicle will enhance the abilities of our SWAT team and help protect the community that we serve.

The Bearcat will be on display at our Special Operations Division on 1/5/12 at 9:00 a.m. Sheriff Winder and SWAT Team Leaders will be available for interviews. This is a great opportunity to get photos and video of this great vehicle.
